Campaigns for Responsible Gaming
The foundation of responsible gaming is a player's trusting connection with the casino, website, or application he uses. This trust must continue to be based on the openness of the regulations, the enjoyment of the game, and the intention to keep all players from going beyond.
Barrière goes above and beyond to reduce these dangers, let its clients continue to enjoy themselves while playing, and uphold the position of its staff members within the Group. Beyond only providing information, our goal is to stop so-called problematic gambling and assist those who desire it, with the help of our teams that have received specialized training in counseling and listening.
What is pathological gambling?
There are various labels for gambling addiction, including compulsive gambling, problem gambling, and gambling addiction, but what do these phrases actually mean?
According to the 2015 “Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders” also called DSM 5, Pathological Gambling is a disorder linked to gambling. Concretely, this relates to an inappropriate, persistent and repeated practice of gambling leading to an alteration of functioning or suffering, clinically significant, as evidenced, in the subject, by the presence of at least four of the following manifestations during over a period of 12 months:
- Need to play with increasing amounts of money to achieve the desired state of excitement
- Agitation or irritability when trying to reduce or stop gambling
- Repeated but unsuccessful efforts to control, reduce or stop gambling
- Preoccupation with gambling (remembering past gambling experiences or anticipating future attempts or means of obtaining money to gamble).
- Often plays during periods of suffering/unhappiness (e.g. feelings of helplessness, guilt, anxiety, depression)
- After losing money gambling, often returns to play another day to recover his losses (to “remake himself”)
- Lies to hide the true extent of his gambling habits
- Endangers or has lost an important emotional relationship, job, or educational or career opportunity because of gambling
- Relies on others to obtain money and get out of desperate financial situations due to gambling.
